Poker craze

I dont know if you have noticed, but there is a big poker craze going on these days. I think it started with ESPN showing it and then the Celebrity Poker Show helped too. My colleagues talk about the game every oyher day. I played the game once in while,w/o actual money of course. But some people play it a little too much. Party Poker is a poker website that advertises on television. Imagine how much money they make.

Weather change

So the New York weather cannot make up its mind. Last week was really nice, with the sun out and such. I actually went to work in a shirt. That was something. Come this week, it is chilly again. One sweater is not enough for me now. I think the sweater days will continue.

Source of CEOs

Ladies and gentlemen

Another great accomplishment of my alma mater, The University of Texas at Austin. A recent survey indicated that UT-Austin, along with The University of Chicago, is the number one source of Fortune 1000 CEOs hired in 2004-2005. The link:

WNBA

This past weekend, Texas had two women drafted into the WNBA. Jamie Carey and Heather Schreiber both got drafted in the third round of the draft. Jamie will be playing in Pheonix and Heather will be showing her stuff in Los Angeles.

Taxes

According to AP, Americans spent 6.6 billion hours on taxes. The article:

I was lucky I only had to do the Federal Tax Return this year since Texas does not have state taxes. Yet, I still procastinated. Next year will be more fun. I will have to fill in federal, state and city taxes and on top of that, I cant fill the EZ form next year. Boy, that will be fun.

Feel important ?

I am getting a PC from the Company so I can work from home. I have been given a SecureID, which I will use whenever I want to use it. The numbers on it change about every 40 seconds. When the person gave it to me, I am like man, I feel important. A number changer every 40 seconds. Quite secure.

Tough weekend

So this weekend was quite different from the others I have had in NYC. I finally hanged out with some people. I met Lorein ( old member of AIESEC Arlington) as she is in town for a trade show. On Saturday, I met Natalie and hanged out with her. She is the new book keeper of AIESEC US. On Sunday, I met up with Natalie and Maria (AIESEC Baruch). To make things downwards, I lost my mail key. Secondly, my cell phone is not charging. So I need to find out if it is a charger problem or my cell phone messing up. Thirdly, I called the IKEA Assemblers to help me with my furtniture. They came 1.5 hours late and then I found out the chair that I bought was not provided with the hardware. Hence, that is still not made. Oh well, weekends can be topsy-turvy too like weekdays. The weather is looking better these days so that is certainly a positive =) .

Late night

Last night was my longest night yet at the office. The day started with me doing the normal stuff I work then. Then, I got trained in the afternoon for a new task, which I will do daily. The training took about 2-3 hours. Then, I was asked to start the same day. So, surprise surpise, I had to decipher what I learnt in the training to finish the job. So, it became a late night. My Company expenses dinner if an employee stays after 8:00 pm. So I ordered dinner and jus tate the starter dish. Then, my colleague kept telling me not to worry and go home because it was late. Hence, she and I left at 10:15 om. Surprisingly enough, I forgot my dinner on my table. I found that out on my cab ride back home. What a day !!

Late night

So last night was the longest night I stayed at my job. I usually come in around 9 o'clock and leave around 6:00-6:30. Yesteray, however, I found out my new daily task. Hence, I had to practice and understand what I was trained on and then do it for that day. It took me a terribly long time, which was expected. I stayed til 10:15 pm. My colleague was telling me to leave and dont stress out over it. If you know me, I stress out over anything and everything. I take everything seriosuly, sometimes even jokes, and that gets me in trouble. Anyways, my Company allows us to have the dinner expensed if we stay later than 8:00pm. I ordered a tune sandwich and mashed potatoes as a side. I just ate the mashed potatoes when it arrived. I realised, in the cab ride back home, I actually forgot my dinner. So that was certainly not good. Addtionally, I had dreams about what I did wrong and why I could not understand the task. Man, what a night. Today, I was shown what was wrong and such and I hope I dont make the same mistakes again. What a joy in the first job !!

Bus service

A historical bus service has started between India and Pakistan. This is great news. Already, Pakistan has gone to India to play cricket and they are currently still playing. At one time, India refused to play Pakistan anywhere for a few years. For this cricket series, thousands of visas were given to Pakistanis. It is quite difficult for Pakistanis to go to India and vice-versa but this series gave an opportunity. Now, with transport, hopefully more fruits will bear.
