Struggling Islam

So how is this religion taking in the 21st century? How is it perceived in the West and other parts of the world? There is a big difference between countries that follow this religion and make it part of the life and oter countries that put the faith in their name/identity but not follow it. I get fustrated when some Amercians forsee the faith as being restrictive, not good towards women, and a faith that just longs for the past (backward). Hopefully, the AIESECers going through SALAAM would understand the complex world of Islam and change people's views in the US.
